Middle Tennessee EMC Selects Landis+Gyr for Advanced Metering, Load Management Project
ATLANTA, GA. – Oct. 14, 2013 – Middle Tennessee Electric Membership Cooperative (MTEMC), the sixth largest cooperative in the nation, has selected Landis+Gyr’s Gridstream® solution for its advanced metering and load management project.
The utility will deploy the Gridstream RF network, along with E-350 FOCUS AX-SD meters, to enable a variety of advanced metering and load management applications, including dynamic load control and voltage management.
“Our goal with this project is to improve efficiency across the utility and reduce peak power costs in a way that benefits our members and improves our customer service,” said Tom Suggs, Vice President of Engineering at MTEMC. “Our members will experience these benefits as we continue to deliver on our mission of providing reliable, affordable, safe electricity and outstanding member service.”
The Gridstream solution provides connectivity with meters and intelligent devices combined with the applications and data services needed to effectively manage distribution networks. Gridstream works with advanced load management tools that include consumer engagement through variable pricing programs, virtual peaking plant software to monitor and confirm load shedding, and dynamic voltage management for peak voltage reduction and power quality monitoring.
“Load management is an important part of the business case for advanced metering and grid management technology. Gridstream presents a fully integrated solution for utilities looking to reduce peak load, improve system reliability and improve customer service,” said Gary High, Senior Vice President of Sales at Landis+Gyr.
