Bayard strengthens position in data management in New Zealand
Bayard, the owner of Landis+Gyr Group, acquired Talgentra, yet another leading-edge technology company in the energy metering industry to be added to Bayard’s stable. This purchase further enhances Bayard’s image, and that of its subsidiaries, as the global market leader in smart metering solutions and systems.
Global Presence
Throughout the globe Bayard is constantly looking to grow its group through the acquisition of specialized technology firms that can add to the overall synergy of the Bayard group of companies, firmly focused on the energy metering industry.
In December Bayard, working closely with ANZ Capital, completed the acquisition of the highly specialized enterprise software company, Talgentra. The firm has a very strong market presence in the meter data management industry in New Zealand and Australia. According to James Docking, Talgentra’s CEO, the company turns over NZ$20 million pa and has many of the largest utilities in both countries as its customers. The financial details of the purchase were not disclosed.
Best Growth Strategy for Products
Docking added they had to do what’s best for the company and with large competitors moving into the space of enterprise application software he felt the best course was to merge with a corporation large enough to support the growth of Talgentra’s products. “We wanted to avoid a competitor buy-out,” he said.
Through the use of Bayard’s international network of companies in the energy metering business Talgentra will now have access to the US and European markets for its ground breaking mDATA21 product just released in November.
mDATA21 has been designed from the ground up to be deployed quickly and to “optimally support a utility’s move into advanced metering”. This dovetails perfectly with Landis+Gyr’s market position of being the global leader of Advanced Metering Infrastructure systems.
Global Synergy
Landis+Gyr, based in Zug, Switzerland, is Bayard’s flagship in its global group of energy metering companies.
Combining this with the recent minority purchase of WACS in the USA, another company with a strong local market presence for meter data management, Bayard is positioning itself to be the front runner in the emerging technology market of AMI.
This all adds weight to Landis+Gyr’s promise of helping their utility customers to manage energy better.
