Feeling the Pressure to Go Green
Landis+Gyr is committed to being recognized as a company that makes a positive contribution to energy management. We are making an ongoing effort to produce “greener” products, and we are working with our customers and suppliers to reduce our carbon footprint in products and operations.
Our suppliers are under pressure regarding the processes they use to produce the materials we need to make our meters, which affects the level of carbon emissions produced. Landis+Gyr is in talks with suppliers in order to identify ways for them to reduce their emissions ensuring that we are only associated with suppliers with a low carbon footprint.
We are also initiating change from within. We will start measuring energy consumption at our sites across the company. Once we evaluate our position and understand our consumption/emission basis per region, season, and business area we will establish yearly reduction goals to achieve a leading level of excellence.
Several initiatives helping us towards our goal are already in action. In the US, these include battery recycling, energy consumption measurement at sites and an energy saving audit. In the UK, freight, supply chain assessment and optimization is underway, while in South America water recycling, composting and energy consumption reduction measures are in place. In Australia, electricity measurement is underway.
Brazil is one of our benchmark sites with high employee and management involvement in CO2 savings, recycling and other environmental initiatives.
Through these initiatives and others we are committed to being your trusted partner in a greener energy industry.
